Manipal Medical College to resume classes from today

The strike staged by the teachers demanding salary hike and permanent positions for tenure teachers, has affected around 300 students studying in the college
Nov 17, 2016- The classes at Manipal Medical College are going to resume on Thursday.

The classes at the Pokhara-based medical college have not taken place for the past three months because of the teachers’ strike to press for salary hike and permanent positions to tenure teachers.

Of the 150 teachers at the college, 55 were actively involved in the strike, and they have been obstructing the non-protesting teachers from taking the classes as well.

A four-point deal was reached at meeting, in which the college administration has agreed to address the demands pressed by the  agitating teachers.

Mukunda Acharya, a parent who was part of the meeting, on Wednesday said it was decided by the meeting that they would request for help from the Ministry of Education, the Kathmandu University, and the Department of Labour and Employment to resolve the problems.

Around 300 students have been affected by the as the teachers’ strike. The students who are in the third and fourth year of their studies were at risk of missing out an entire semester.

According to the academic calendar of Kathmandu University, the exams of seventh and ninth semesters are scheduled for February and March next year.
