Indian Army chief in Kathmandu

Nov 12, 2016- Indian Chief of the Army Staff Gen Dalbir Singh arrived in Kathmandu on Friday on a three-day official visit at the invitation of his Nepali counterpart Gen Rajendra Chhetri.
His arrival comes on the heels of the visit of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee last week. Gen Singh’s visit is expected to strengthen military and security ties between Nepal and India. This is his second visit to Nepal after assuming the top army post in July, 2014.
Soon after landing in Kathmandu, according to the Nepal Army, the two army chiefs met at the NA headquarters to discuss military, security and other issues of bilateral concern. Gen Singh laid a wreath on the “Veer Smarak” at the Army Pavilion, Tundhikhel.
Later on Friday, Gen Singh attended a cultural programme organised by Nepal Army Wives Association at the NA Headquarters.
Singh is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The two generals will inspect the Nepal-India joint group training exercise “Surya Kiran X” being held at the NA Battle School, Saljhandi, Rupandehi. The battalion-level exercise that began on October 31 concludes on Sunday.
This is the tenth series of joint military exercise between Nepal and India held alternatively in Nepal and India every year.
